Today we will use synonyms to determine the meaning of words. Determine= Understand What are we going to use to determine the meaning of words? What are we going to use synonyms for? What are we going to do today?

Synonym: A word that has the same, or nearly the same, meaning to another word. Examples: Gift Present Neat Tidy Fast Quick Rock Stone A synonym is a word that what? A synonyms is a word that has the same meaning as what? What is a synonym?

Why do I need to learn this? Synonyms help us determine the meaning of words, and if we can determine the meaning of words, we become better readers. Does anybody have any other reason why this is important? Why is it important to you?

How do I use synonyms? 1.Read the word. 2.Think about what it means. 3.Think of other words that have a similar meaning. If you don’t know what it means, use clarification strategies 4.Look at all your choices. 5.Choose the word that you think has the closest meaning. 6.Replace the word with your choice and see if it makes sense.
