Genesis 3:7-13 – first fruit of disobedience seemed to be SELFISHNESS! – Shifted blame because of being SELF- ORIENTED – 1 Corinthians 10:24 “seek… each one the other’s wellbeing.” – Philippians 2:3,4 “look out… for the interests of others.”

John 19:38 “disciple of Jesus, but secretly” Mark 8:38 - What possible good would a secret disciple be to God? Matthew 5:15,16 “let your light.. Shine” Romans 1:16 “not ashamed of the gospel of Christ” “You never mentioned Him to me…”

Acts 17:1-5 – Reasoned, Explained & Demonstrated Truth from Scriptures, some continued in unbelief! James 4:10 – demands humility – Past beliefs, practices or traditions cannot be allowed to stand in the way of TRUTH! Are we Really Lovers & Seekers of TRUTH? Matthew 7:7

“casual conversation or unsubstantiated reports about other people. Chiefly derogatory, a person who likes talking about other people’s private lives.” Talebearer – Leviticus 19:16 “slanderer” as in Jer. 6:28;9:4; Ezek 22:9; Prov 11:13;20:19. Meaning is invariant in all occurrences. Translation “talebearer” found in some & “gossip” too light as contexts show.”

“A masculine n. referring to gossip – spreading rumors or falsities about someone.. Revealing things that should not be made public…”

N.T. “backbiter” & “whisperer” Romans 1:29,30 “Whisperer, secret slanderer, detractor” “Synonymous with “backbiter”, the distinction being that “backbiter” is guilty of open calumny, the “whisperer” does it clandestinely.” 2 Corinthians 12:20 – Paul did not want to find them guilty of such things

“a preoccupation with things of this temporal life… accepting & going alone with views and practices of society around us without discerning if they are Biblical.” 1 Timothy 4:7,8 Colossians 1:9,10 Hebrews 5:14 Acts 17:6 “turning the world upside down!”

“How then can we deal with our tendency toward worldliness? It is not by determining that we will not be worldly, but by committing ourselves to becoming more godly.”

“Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? -- unless indeed you are disqualified.”
