Faith Alone Doctrine Some misunderstand the Bible (figurative) Synecdoche (part used for the whole) Black Tie Dinner (formal clothing) A teen wants wheels (automobile) “Hear Ye Him” Matt. 17:5 “salvation to every one that believeth;” Rom 1:16 “Whosoever... shall confess me” Matt 10:32

Repenting of Sins Part used for the whole: 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Acts 11:18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life. Could not repent without hearing and believing

Repenting of Sins Matt 27:3 Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, metameleetheis - to care afterwards, regret 2 Cor 7:8 For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season.

Repenting of Sins metameleetheis - to care afterwards, regret metanoia - reversal (from guilt, including reformation) 2 Cor 7:9 Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. 10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

Baptism into Christ Part used for the whole: 1 Peter 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: Motive to teach and accept faith alone doctrine: To avoid being baptized (requires too much) To excuse no change: Rom 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Baptism into Christ Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Baptism does not save alone. Accompanied by proper understanding and belief : Acts 19:1-7

If You Refuse Baptism: You have not heard it all (taught less than the Gospel reveals) You do not believe what Jesus said (accept man’s doctrines over the Bible truth) You refuse to confess Him before men (reveals belief and precedes baptism) Acts 8:36-38 You have not truly repented of your past sins (still negotiating from position of pride)
