ILYICH ABRASIVE COMPANY was founded in St. Petersburg by engineer Nikolay Struk in 1878 and it was named as «The first Russian Emery Products Factory». Since 1878 till 1931 the factory had been working with natural abrasive materials as - emery, flint, corundum.

1931 1931 - production of tools made of synthetic materials – fused alumina, silicon carbide and others. 1962 1962 - production of synthetic diamonds. 1963 1963 – development of synthesis of new material – Cubic Boron Nitride. 1963 1963 – mass-production of resin bonded diamond grinding wheels. 1965 1965 – mass-production of grinding tools made of Cubic Boron Nitride. 1985 1985 - development of high-porous conventional grinding wheels. 1999 1999 - production of synthetic diamond vitrified grinding wheels. 2001 2001 - development and production of AEROBOR® wheels. 2007 2007 – production of high-speed (up to 125 m/s) CBN vitrified wheels.
