Since it was established in 1990 over 300 patients have received cochlear implants at this centre. At the end of 2005 SOECIC was supporting 124 adults, 48 teenagers and 126 children with cochlear implants including 10 using bilateral implants. The team has grown to over 25 staff members. The team consisted of surgeon, radiologist, hearing therapist, audiological scientist and clerical support First child received a cochlear implant Teacher of the Deaf joins the team Ineraid Initial tuning of first child with congenital hearing loss BBC Film Katy -The Early Years The South of England Cochlear Implant Centre (SOECIC) provides a regional service for severely and profoundly deaf adults, teenagers and children in the South of the UK and the Channel Islands. Situated within the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR) at the University of Southampton SOECIC benefits from being part of a high quality research establishment.
