THE JONATHAN FOUNDATION Suicide Statistics Suicide has moved up to the 2nd leading cause of death for youth ages 10-24. Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for college- age youth. Suicide is PREVENTABLE. 90% youth that attempt suicides that are unsuccessful or blocked, never attempt suicide again.

THE JONATHAN FOUNDATION BE THAT FRIEND Be Able to Identify Signs Suicide threats or previous attempts Depression Anger, increased irritability Lack of interest in activities they used to enjoy Sudden increase/decrease in appetite Sudden changes in appearance Dwindling academic performance Sudden failure to complete assignments An "I don't care" attitude about school or other activities. Preoccupation with death, guns

THE JONATHAN FOUNDATION BE THAT FRIEND Be Prepared to Act Have a game plan in place in the event that any one of your friends ever indicates they are hurting or thinking of hurting themselves. Don't be afraid to talk to someone who seems to be depressed or hurting. Let them know there is someone who cares for them. Tell someone!
