THE PARTS OF A SHORT COMPOSITION
2
A Short Composition has three main parts; A) INTRODUCTION B) BODY C) CONCLUSION BODY INTRODUCTION CONCLUSION
3
A) INTRODUCTION Introduction is the first paragraph of the short composition. We introduce the main idea. It has three parts; 1) the hook 2) background information 3) thesis statement
4
1) THE HOOK It is the opening sentence of introduction. It is the interesting start. It can be; aaaa question. aaaa catchy phrase or quote or song lyrics aaaa tongue twister. aaaan exclamatory sentence. (An e xclamatory sentence is a sentence that expresses strong feelings)
5
FOR EXAMPLE; YYou will write a short composition about your best friend, so the hook can be; AA friend in need is a friend indeed. (Latin proverb) ""A friend is one who walks in when others walk out." ( Quote from Walter Winchell) ""I get by with a little help from my friends.”(song lyric by John Lennon) HHave you ever thought the importance of the people around you? (question) LLife is so short that we need someone to share our thoughts and feelings. (an exclamatory sentence)
6
BACKGROUND INFORMATION More specific than the HOOK. At least two sentences Gives background information about the topic. should be related to one another, to the hook, and to the thesis statement. FOR EXAMLPE; A friend is some one that will stand by you, even during the toughest times. To me friendship is about believing in your friends and helping them to achieve all they can or want to do in life. We are there for each other with hugs, advice, kind words, fights, and anger, whatever comes along. My best friend who is always with me is Elif.
7
THESIS STATEMENT The thesis statement is the last part of the introduction In this part, the writer states what the composition is about. There are two kinds of THESIS STATEMENT; 1)Stated Thesis Statements: The writer wants to give a specific outline of the composition. “Ayşe is my best friend since she is honest, social, and loyal.” 2)Implied Thesis Statement: The writer does not give an outline of the composition. “There are several reasons why Ayşe is my best friend.”
