The earliest scientific attempt to explain Combustion reaction are used everyday, something as simple as turning on a gas range is a combustion reaction. Something as simple as lighting a match is a combustion reaction.
3
What is combustion? Is a reaction an element or a compound reacts always with oxygen, often producing energy in the form of heat and light and water.
4
An example of this combustion can be found in the news, it reads as “Man sets himself on fire after he douses his car in alcohol to kill bedbugs and then lights a cigarette inside.”
5
Another example is something someone might use in everyday life. A heater is a good example of this because in the end it produces heat, due to the reaction.
6
The combustion of a hydrocarbon releases energy as heat Hydrocarbons are such as Methane- CH 4 Propane- C 3 H 8 Butane-C 4 H 10 Octane- C 8 H 1 8
7
A combustion reaction between an element and oxygen is also an example of a combination reaction For example, both magnesium and sulfur will burn by reaction with Oxygen 2Mg (s ) + O 2 (s) 2MgO(s) S (s) + O 2 (g) SO 2 (g) What is a Combination Reaction?
8
C 3 H 8 + O 2 = CO 2 + H 2 O C 3 H 8 + O 2 = CO 2 + 4 H 2 O C 3 H 8 + O 2 = 3 CO 2 +4 H 2 O C 3 H 8 + 5 O 2 = 3 CO 2 +4 H 2 O Add a 4 to balance the hydrogen atoms on each side Add a 3 to balance the carbon At0ms Add 5 to the oxygen to balance the amount of Atoms
9
C 2 H 6 O + O 2 =CO 2 + H 2 O C 2 H 6 O + 3O 2 =2CO 2 + 3H 2 O
10
What does an element or hydrocarbon need to have to react with to have a combustion reaction? A.Carbon B.Sulfate C.Oxygen D.Helium
11
hexane (C6H14) + oxygen=? Balance and Find the products of this complete combustion reaction
