Important concepts The knowledgeable person will make informed choices Knowledge is best gained at a pace, in a place and to a depth that is comfortable and controlled by the person, not the doctor The internet can bring knowledge on demand to the person in their own home. Put the controls in the hands of the person.

What Knowledge is Best? Knowledge needs to be customized for the person, avoiding ‘content overload’ Knowledge needs to be contemporary and relevant to the person’s needs Knowledge needs to be authoritative - “can we believe it?”

When is knowledge needed? Our research shows that individuals with arthritis need information when: They are first diagnosed with arthritis When a new treatment becomes available When they are contemplating surgery
