6. Are healthcare facilities prepared for an evacuation?
Full evacuation is very rare, but it happens from time to time
Evacuation is not just caused by fire, but also electrical failure or extreme weather conditions
Each care unit/department must be able to automatically and autonomously prepare their patients for evacuation in order to facilitate the evacuation efforts and to limit reliance on emergency services.

7. Evacuation must be planned
Saving inhabitants with reduced mobility takes a lot of time so evacuation needs to be well planned-:
Clear communication of evacuation procedure
Have a system in place to contact sufficient number of personnel to assist in a short period of time
Keeping escape routes clear and well marked
Having evacuation tools such as wheelchairs, stretchers, trolleys etc. close to hand
Establish collection points for patients
Have a number of transport options
Ensure employee safety and well-being
Have a plan for temporary accommodation should the need arise
Carry out practise drills with staff and residents

14. Positioning Rescue fits permanently under the mattress
The orange straps and instruction label are down against the frame of the bed for ease of visibility and use
Fastened to the corners of the mattress with elastic corner straps
The buckles are positioned for easy access
The orange handles is placed at the head and bed end
Make the bed as usual

15. Evacuation
Pull the orange straps with the buckles out and lay over the patient and duvet.
Fasten these straps to the straps on the other side, and tighten so that the mattress bends upwards on each side.
Use the handle at the head end and pull the patient and mattress gently off the bed frame.
Hold the handle high, giving the patient maximum protection when the mattress touches the floor.
The patient can now be transferred out of the room, down stairs and out to safety or collection point
The mattress and bed duvet protect the patient against further injury and cold.
