August 9 Michael Brown and a friend allegedly rob a convenience store – Confronted by Officer Darren Wilson – Confrontation ensues, Brown is shot several times – Brown was unarmed

August 11 At night, a candle-light vigil for Brown turns violent – Some protesters riot and loot nearby stores – Police arrest 32 people and two officers are injured

August 12 FBI will be investigate Brown’s death Brown’s parents hold a news conference demanding justice – Protesters gather and police use tear gas to disperse the crowd.

August 12 cont. According to Brown’s friend, Brown did not touch the officer – The officer continues to shoot even once Brown had his hands up Protestors and police clash again According to Darren Wilson, Brown rushed him and didn’t stop – Scared for his life

August 13 A protestor is shot and wounded Riots continue for a 4 th night – Police in riot gear throw tear gas into the crowd

August 14 Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon arrives – Security turned over to the MO Highway Patrol – Capt. Ron Johnson, an African-American raised in the community, would be in charge President Obama addresses the shooting – “time for healing.” The protests are peaceful on their fifth night – Johnson marches with protesters

August 15 Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson names Darren Wilson as Brown’s shooter – Brown was a suspect in a robbery the morning he was shot – Releases reports and video surveillance of the robbery – Then says the robbery and the shooting were unrelated Confrontation began because Brown and his friend were walking in the street and “blocking traffic.” Protests turn violent again – Rioting and looting – Peaceful protesters attempt to stop it – Tear gas used again

August 16 Gov. Nixon issues a state of emergency and implements a curfew from midnight to 5 am

August 17 Attorney General Eric Holder orders medical examination to be performed by a federal examiner Results of the Brown family’s independent examination: – Brown was shot at least 6 times, including once in the top of his skull – All of the shots were fired at Brown from the front Protests continue

August 18 Amnesty International deploys human rights teams to Ferguson Gov. Nixon summons the national guard – To help restore peace and order and to protect the citizens of Ferguson – Withdrew on Aug 21
