1 Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 “To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven; A time to be born, And a time to die; A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted; A time to kill, And a time to heal; A time to break down, And a time to build up; A time to weep, And a time to laugh; A time to mourn, And a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, And a time to gather stones; A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing; A time to gain, And a time to lose; A time to keep, And a time to throw away; A time to tear, And a time to sew; A time to keep silence, And a time to speak; A time to love, And a time to hate; A time of war, And a time of peace” (NKJV).

2 A Time For Everything I. Beginnings & Endings. A.A time to be born, and a time to die (vs. 2a). 1.Birth (Jas. 2:26; John 3:3-5). 2.Death (Matt. 19:14; Eph. 2:5; Col. 2:13; Rev. 20:14; Col. 2:10-13). B.A time to plant, and a time to pluck what is planted (vs. 2b). 1.Planting (1 Cor. 3:6; Luke 8:11). 2.Uprooting (Eph. 5:11; 1 Cor. 5:7-8).

3 A Time For Everything II. Destruction & Reconstruction. A.A time to kill, and a time to heal (vs. 3a). 1.Killing (Gen. 9:6; Rom. 13:4; Deut. 19:12). 2.Healing (Acts 2:22; Mark 16:20; James 5:15; 1 Cor. 12 & 13; Heb. 12:12-15). B.A time to break down, and a time to build up (vs. 3b). 1.Breaking down (2 Co. 10:3-6). 2.Building Up (1 Thess. 5:11). “Edify” Gr. oikodomeo “to be a house-builder” (Strong’s 3618).

C.A time to tear, and a time to sew (vs. 7a). 1.Tearing. “tear” Heb. qara‘, “Most frequently it refers to an act of heartfelt and grievous affliction (tearing one’s upper and under garment in front of the breast baring the sorrow of the heart; (cf…. Leviticus 10:6). This occurred at the first news of a death (Genesis 37:29) or other tragedy (Numbers 14:6; Joshua 7:6)” (Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament, 2. 816. ).
