2 A WEBQUEST by: Kelly Ratliff

3 Introduction:  Whoever you are, wherever you go; there are children in this world just like you. Though you may look, speak, and live differently, on the inside we are all the same. We laugh the same, cry the same, feel joy the same and pain the same. Wherever we may find ourselves in this GREAT BIG WORLD.

4 Task:  You will work in small groups, assigned by your teacher, to come up with similarities and differences you share with other children, both in the classroom and around the world. You will explore the World Wide Web to become familiar with cultures you know little about. Go to google images to get a better picture of various aspects of other cultures. google imagesgoogle images

5 Process:  First, you will identify ways in which you are like other children; consider foods you eat, clothing, shelter, appearance, language, schooling, and music.  Second, you will identify ways in which you differ from others.  Third, you will describe ways in which those similarities and differences bring us together.  Then you will come up with ways which those similarities and differences may tear us apart.

6 Process:  Discuss with your group the concept of PEACE and what it means to you.  Visit "speak up" to discover ways in which you can take a stand to promote unity. "speak up" "speak up"  Use what you have learned as well as your own experiences to develop ideas to promote PEACE among diverse peoples.  Become an expert on the aspects of life in another culture and discuss how it relates to your own.  Finally, your group will construct a poster, prepare a verbal presentation, or create a song that promotes PEACE and TOLERANCE across cultures.

7 Process:  You will then present your poster, presentation, or song to the class.  Individually, you will go to the Teaching Tolerance website and create your own addition to the “One World” mural, your teacher will assist you with adding your creation to the website. 10 Conclusion:  You have learned the commonalities of humanity that are shared by people all over the world. Now that you are equipped with the necessary knowledge, it is your responsibility to take a stand, speak up and promote peace and tolerance among all people.
