Atmospheric pressure is caused by the weight of atmospheric gases as a result of gravity pulling the gas molecules toward Earth.

Mercurial Barometer: Atmospheric pressure pushes on the well at the base of the barometer. This holds the level of the mercury in the tube at a height indicating the air pressure.
