On 1/22/09, of five holes, one, two, and three have sap flow.

He begins digging in hole five.

Moves over …

and digs in hole four.

He cuts an outline,

… the start of a new sap hole.

Chipping exposes softer wood beneath.

He works on the new hole. Note the falling wood chip.

Now it’s a six hole row.

He continues to drill…

and dig into the new hole.

Head back to drill.

Head forward to dig.

Thirteen photos in two minutes, beginning at 10:16 a.m. At 10:18 a.m. he moves to another area of the tree. He returns at 10:19 a.m. to a six hole row.
