1 The 27 Amendments

2 Amendment 1 Freedom of speech, press, religion, assembly, and petition

3 Amendment 2 Right to bear arms.

4 Amendment 3 No Quartering Troops (citizens do not have to house soldiers. )

5 Amendment 4 No unreasonable search or seizure (arrest).

6 Amendment 5 Criminal proceedings: Due process, eminent domain, double jeopardy; protection from self incrimination. “I plead the fifth, I’m not answering the question”.

7 Amendment 6 Right to a speedy trial.

8 Amendment 7 Jury trials in civil cases

9 Amendment 8 No excessive bail or cruel punishment.

10 Amendment 9 People get rights not listed in Constitution.

11 Amendment 10 Any rights not given to federal government are given to the states and people.

12 Amendment 11 Individual cannot sue a state in a federal court.

13 Amendment 12 Separate ballots for President and Vice President.

14 Amendment 13 Abolish Slavery

15 Amendment 14 Citizenship - If you are born or naturalized in the U.S. then you are a citizen of the U.S.

16 Amendment 15 You cannot prevent a person from voting because of race, color, or creed.

17 Amendment 16 Congress has the power to pass direct taxes, such as income tax

18 Amendment 17 Popular election of U.S. Senators

19 Amendment 18 Prohibition - Selling and drinking of alcoholic beverages is illegal

20 Amendment 19 Women get the right to vote.

21 Amendment 20 President takes office on January 20th instead of March 4th.

22 Amendment 21 Repeal prohibition.

23 Amendment 22 President can only serve two terms.

24 Amendment 23 Washington D.C. residents can vote for president.

25 Amendment 24 Anti poll tax.

26 Amendment 25 How president turns duties over to V.P. due to illness.

27 Amendment 26 18 year olds get to vote

28 Amendment 27 Congress cannot accept a pay raise until next term. Took 202 years to ratify…
