2 What is A Serial Killer A person who commits 3 or more murders
commits pre-meditated murders facilitates pre-meditated murders difficult childhood (i.e. bad parents, raped, abused, ect.) has a “signature.” A common way of killing their victims kills a certain group of people, usually has something to do with their childhood Typically has characteristics that are “not normal” (i.e.- anti-social, bad temper, extreme violence, ect.) **ALL OF THESE THINGS ARE COMMON OF A SERIAL KILLER BUT ARE NOT REQUIRED** There is no real definition of a Serial Killer, there are too many inconsistent variables

3 How it all Began… Bianchi Born: 1951, Rochester NY
Mother: Alcoholic Prostitute, put him up for adoption at birth Foster Parent: Frances Bianchi, whose husband died when Kenneth was 13 Characteristics: compulsive liar, threw violent tantrums, and although he showed signs of artistic talent an above average intelligence, he was an underachiever in school, big ego- made up things to impress the girls , religion very important in his life (influenced his view on women’s role)

4 How it all began… Buono Born: NY state in 1934
Parents: Divorced. He lived with mother (Jenny) and sister (Cecilia) in California Characteristics: very care free attitude and did only what satisfied him, delinquent, not very smart, stole cars, went to juvenile detention facility, intense hatred and total disrespect for women, saw sex as domination, abused his own mother calling her names

Yolanda Washington Forest Lawn Cemetery October 31, 1977 Judith Miller- 16 Eagle Rock Neighborhood- north of LA November 6, 1977 Lissa Kastin- 21 Glendale Country Club November 20, 1977 Dolores Cepeda- 12 Near Dodger stadium Sonja Johnson- 14 November (missing Nov 9th) Jane King- 28 Off ramp of the Golden state freeway November 29th Lauren Wagner- 18 Hillside in California December 13, 1977 Kimberly Martin- 17 February Cindy Hudspeth-20 Angeles Crest Area Bianchi moved in with Buono. The two of them become partners in crime, killing a total of 9 women raining from approximately October 18, to February

6 The Trail Buono Bianchi Verdict: guilty of 9 counts of murder
Verdict: Plead guilty to five murder charges Sentence: 118 years in prison Evidence: Jewelry belonging to a couple of the LA victims, found guilty to two murders in LA, Karen Mandic and Diane Wilder. During investigation confessed to some hillside murders. To avoid death penalty plead guilty to 5 murders and told entire truth about killings, exposing Buono Verdict: guilty of 9 counts of murder Sentence: life in prison, without parole Evidence: Bianchi also implicated his cousin Angelo Buono in his confessions, Bianchi testified against him

7 The Judge Says... “Angelo Buono and Kenneth Bianchi subjected their murder victims to the administration of lethal gas, electrocution, strangulation by rope, and lethal hypodermic injection. Yet the two defendants are destined to spend their lives in prison, housed, fed and clothed at taxpayer expense, better cared for than some of the destitute law-abiding members of our community.”
