Second Sunday of the Year

Alleluia, Alleluia, The Spirit is with us He is with us indeed Alleluia And so we gather. In the name of the Father…

Follow me, follow me, Leave your home and family, Leave your fishing nets and boats upon the shore, Leave the seed that you have sown, Leave the crops that you’ve grown, Leave the people you have known and follow me. 1 The foxes have their holes and the swallows have their nests, but the Son of man has no place to lay down. I do not offer comfort, I do not offer wealth, But in me will all happiness be found. 2.If you would follow me, You must leave old ways behind. You must take my cross and follow on my path. You may be far from loved ones, You may be far from home, But my Father will welcome you at last. 3.Although I go away, You will never be alone, For the Spirit will be there to comfort you. Though all of you may scatter, Each follow his own path, Still the Spirit of love will lead You home.

Opening prayer God of all, you know us all by name, and love and care for us, because we are all your children. Help us also to love and care for our brothers and sisters around the world. Amen.

God revealed his only Son to us. Lord have mercy. Lord, have mercy. He came to call sinners. Christ have mercy. Christ, have mercy. He calls us to forgive as you forgive us. Lord have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Miss Stevens

Alleluia, Alleluia

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. John Glory to you, Oh Lord The Gospel of the Lord Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ Mr Allen-Wicks

Alleluia, Alleluia

I wonder what you heard in the Gospel today. Why did John refer to Jesus as the ‘Lamb of God’? Why did the two men follow Jesus? Why did Jesus tell Simon Peter that he would be known as ‘Cephas’, which means rock?

Ritual response We invite each class to come and collect a rock to put on your focal point to remind you how Simon Peter was dependable.

As brothers and sisters in one loving family, together let us pray to our heavenly father. Lord hear our prayer. The response is sung, Lord hear our prayer. We bring to God’s love his people and his Church throughout the world. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. We bring to God’s love all who suffer because they choose to follow him. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. We bring to God’s love the hungry, the homeless and the unloved. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Mr Allen-Wicks

Knowing that our Heavenly Father is listening, in the silence of our hearts, let us share our own unspoken prayers with Him.

Whatsoever you do To the least of my brothers, That you do unto me. When I was hungry You gave me to eat When I was thirsty You gave me to drink Now enter into the home of my Father. When I was homeless You opened your door When I was naked You gave me your coat Now enter into the home of my Father When I was weary You helped me to rest When I was anxious You calmed all my fears Now enter into the home of my Father.

Let us pray together Loving Father, give us the courage to follow you, so that by our words and actions we may be witnesses to your love. Grant this through Christ our Saviour. Amen
