New Technologies As new inventions and manufactured goods were developed it changed how Americans lived.

Skyscrapers Steel made taller buildings possible. –The Eiffel Tower – Gustave Eiffel – Paris, France. –In the 1890s, 10 and 11 story buildings were a marvel. –By the 1920s, cities had buildings of 70 stories or more. –1931- Empire State Building, NYC 102 stories.

Ford’s Innovations By 1914, Ford was selling 250,000 Model T’s a year. Ford borrowed and improved techniques from the meat packing industry. –Assembly line By 1925, 1 car for every 5 people.

Assembly line jobs Monotonous High turnover To keep workers, Ford offered –Shorter hours –Higher wages $5 a day when most workers earned ½ that amount.
