11 William Crosby Superiority in Research Award The Superiority in Research Award is designed to honor a member, fellow, or master of the Army Chapter of the ACP who has demonstrated excellence in the design, performance, and publication of peer reviewed research which exemplifies the characteristics displayed by COL William Crosby MC (Retired). The recipient should be recognized in both the military and civilian academic community as having made significant contributions to the scientific literature. This award recognizes research as a pivotal requirement of the Army Internist.

Crosby, Jr. COL Crosby was internationally recognized as an expert in Hematology - Established the Army Blood Banking Fellowship -Established hematology at WRAMC/WRAIR -Published over 300 manuscripts -Including large volume transfusions in the Korean Conflict -Patented a capsule to diagnose sprue -Regimental Surgeon in World War II

Moser Graduated from Georgetown University Medical School in 1948 Battalion surgeon in Korea in 1950 Earned seven battle stars and other commendations Trained in Pulmonary medicine Cardiovascular disease at BAMC Clinical hematology at the University of Utah Program Director for three Army IM Residency Programs Flight control for NASA Mercury program Editor of JAMA Executive Vice President for the American College of Physicians Passed away this summer at the age of 90

25 Sampling of Accomplishments As the Flight Surgeon for the 4 th BN, 160 th SOAR(ABN), MAJ Reese has demonstrated unmatched excellence in operational medicine – He leads a clinic that supports a population of 600 Soldiers – He created a program that added annual mental health assessments into annual periodic health assessments (PHA) – He developed a comprehensive eight-stage human performance test that has been integrated into the annual physical requirements of the BN – resulting in reduced injury and increased readiness – He has developed an operational medicine rotation for interns conducting GME at Madigan Army Medical Center
