Blackbeard's early life Blackbeard the pirate was thought to be born, somewhere around the time of 1680 His real name was thought to be Edward Teach or some thing along the lines of Edward Thatch. He joined the crew of captain Benjamin Hornigold He served as a privateer, this job was based Jamaica He was incredibly loyal to his captain Eventually he became the captain of a ship he had robbed After Blackbeard became captain to his ship he began a life of piracy

Blackbeard begins piracy He robbed merchant ships and divided the loot with the rest of the crew He made adjustments to his ship as needed Eventually it became big enough and spacious enough to fit a crew of 250 men! His victims were so frightened, most of them gave up without a fight If the enemies tried to fight him off, Blackbeard the pirate would burn their ship or leave them stranded on an island to rot away

Blackbeard’s ferocious look Blackbeard did many things to keep a frightful appearance. he dressed with many guns, pistols, knives, and swords attached to his clothes. he also stuck matches and cannon fuses under his hat and lit them during a battle to make his large black beard emit smoke and intimidate the enemy. He was a very tall men as well. Blackbeard was about 6 feet 4” and would where a bright crimson coat.

Blackbeard hideouts Blackbeard had many hide outs. one of his favorites was in Ocracoke, North Carolina. It was the place where he and his crew would gather up and drink or just to have a good time. This place was also the place where he was killed by Robert Maynard and his 60 men.

Blackbeard’s reign of terror Blackbeard the pirate reigned the Caribbean seas for about two years He robbed the merchant ships and took their goods. He would steel the liquor, weapons, and other valuable foreign items that were brought along by these ships

Blackbeard’s Death The governor of north Carolina got tiered of the pirates and ordered the hunt down for Blackbeard He ordered a fleet of ships to track him down and kill the notorious pirate. On November 23, 1718 Robert Maynard gathered himself and 60 men to kill Blackbeard the pirate

Blackbeard’s death cont. Robert Maynard and 60 men sailed to Ocracoke Where Blackbeard was hiding They battled his crew on his ship as any usual battle Blackbeard was shot and stabbed more than 25 times before he finally died in the battle To prove that he had been killed, Maynard chopped Blackbeard's head off and hung it from the bowsprit of his ship the “HMS pearl” to serve as a warning and a trophy to other pirates.
