2 Common Assessment – Multiple Choice Only! Please make sure all of your answers are on the bubble sheet. Look at number 2. Where it says, “Underline,” you’re going to write the sentence NUMBER that supports your answer. For example, if you think sentence number 2 supports your answer for number 1, write a number 2 on the bubble sheet. Look at number 6. Where it says, “Underline,” you’re going to write the WORD that best supports your answer on the bubble sheet. Look at number 10. Where it says “Check 2,” write down “A, B” or “C, D” in the box on the bubble sheet. Look at number 14. Where it says, “Check all that apply,” write down all possible answer choices “A,B,C,D” in the box on the bubble sheet.

9 As we read... In the left hand column, create a bulleted list of the events of the chapter. Then, we’ll watch the scene and you’ll do a compare/contrast of the same scene. Finally, you’ll consider how the changes made affect your interaction with the text.

10 The Hunger Games Scene 1: pages 18-20, where everyone gathers for “The Reaping” and Katniss volunteers for Prim How is the scene presented in the book?How is the scene presented on screen? The mayor tells everyone about the history of the games Katniss explains in detail the reasons for the games, giving her opinion of how she feels: “The Capitol requires us to treat the Hunger Games as a festivity” Haymitch is very drunk Prim’s name is called There is no mayor at all; Effie shows a video detailing the history of the games Because we’re not in Katniss’ head, we don’t know how she feels about this. We don’t see Haymitch at all How do the differences and similarities affect your experience? The fact that the movie has the ability to SHOW what the history of the Hunger Games is like makes an impact because we can actually SEE it. However, we don’t have any real idea of how Katniss feels, which makes less of an impact because we don’t understand how much the games really bother her.

23 Making Predictions from Character Testimonies As we read the play, write down the name of the witnesses she sees (the first witness is already done for you). Then, write down important facts and details from the witness testimony on the sheet provided. Once we’ve done that, you’ll be able to answer the second two questions. Whatever you do not finish will be for homework!

25 Reader’s Theater… Because the courtroom scene is kind of written like a play, we’re going to treat it like one! In your hand you will find a “Script” of TKAM chapter 17. We will read through it together.
