CRIME PREVENTION DESIRE ABILITY OPPORTUNITY ELIMINATING ONE OF THE THREE ELEMENTS THAT MUST BE PRESENT FOR CRIME TO OCCUR. WHILE YOU MAY HAVE NO CONTROL OVER A CRIMINAL’S DESIRE OR ABILITY TO COMMIT CRIME, YOU CAN PREVENT THEM FROM GAINING AN OPPORTUNITY TO COMMIT CRIME.

CONSEQUENCES ARS 13-2102: theft of a credit card or obtaining a credit card by fraudulent means (CLASS 5 FELONY) ARS 13-2103: Receipt of anything of value obtained by fraudulent use of a credit card (CLASS 1 MISD – CLASS 5 FELONY) ARS 13-2105: fraudulent use of a credit card (CLASS 1 MISD – CLASS 5 FELONY)

CONSEQUENCES How Does misuse affect me at the University of Arizona? Potential Loss of Career or suspension Postponement of potential departmental raises Negative media attention Personal embarrassment Personal Loss of hiring potential for new career

CONSEQUENCES Personal financial loss Possible forfeiture benefits, and any other income until restitution payments, fines and other applicable fees are paid back as ordered by the Superior Court NO STATUTE OF LIMITATION…Former employees who engaged in fraud against the U of A can be subject to prosecution!

REPORTING I have observed something not quite right. I want to protect the U of A but I am afraid of what may happen to me. What do I do? report the activity to your supervisor A plan of action can be formulated and a decision to involve UAPD can be made based on ABOR policy, your department guidelines and department administrators

REPORTING What if my immediate supervisor is involved in this activity? Follow Human Resources Guidelines for reporting ALL behavior not condoned by ABOR and the University of Arizona

REPORTING Whistle Blowers Act! U of A and state employees are protected from reprisal for whistle blowing under: ABOR Policy 6-914 ARS 38-531, 38-533, 41-1062

REPORTING Anonymous reporting of crime or suspected crime can be made to the County Attorney’s Office by calling: 88-Crime (882-7463)
