3. This is the third phase of the TDG-funded project “Crime Issue”, first implemented in 2008. Similar to the first (2008- 09) and second (2009-10) phases, the project’s third phase will cover a wide range of teaching and learning activities inside and outside the classroom, such as field visits, guest seminars, editorial work of a newsletter and a forum. As an improvement of the previous phases, participants of the new project will take a more active role in conveying the crime prevention message to the community. Participants will team up in collaboration with the police crime prevention unit to educate different vulnerable groups in community (e.g. elderly, juvenile delinquents as well as sex workers) about situational crime prevention techniques. 5. Upon the completion of this project, students are expected to be able to: 1. describe the nature and implications of a number of key issues of criminology that are chosen for the course; 2. articulate the complex social and organizational factors that underlie crime reduction efforts for the selected issues; 3. demonstrate an advanced knowledge of the relevant public discourse, research literature and theoretical foundations of the issue under study; and 4. communicate ideas and arguments in debates through oral presentations and in writing.
