History Of Sudan Sudan has been a place that people have called home for the last nine million years, it was around in biblical times. Sudan owes a lot to napoleon who won it in 1797 at the battle of the pyramids. Muhammad Mi was the ruler for many years and, Sudan's name means “land of blacks”. Muhammad mi took charge up until around 1898. When Sudan found itself embedded in a group of civil wars.Kitchner eventually won the battles after countless casualties and entered the capital city Omdurman as the new leader of the Sudan. The country then flourished both economically and physically after Britain and Egypt signed and agreement, basically saying that Sudan was to be a shared territory. Everything was going well as they approached WWI. Then in the early 1950’s two different political parties emerged. One was The Nationalist Union Party, and the other was The Umma Party. Soon after these party lines where established Sudan achieved its independence On January 1, 1956. Until the early 1970’s Sudan went back and fourth from political powers. Also since this time period Sudan could been considered as an unstable county, It has gone thru. Political problems, the enforcement of Islamic Law. Now in present day they are still dealing with many old problems as well as new ones. Like the genocide going on in Dufar.
