7 XL950 / Platinum ZV Control
A 950 control is required for all zoning applications The 950 control is the central control point for all system functionality, including zoning Version 2.0 software is required for zoning operation All 950 controls built after 9/22/11 will have version 2.0 software Zoning cannot be enabled with software versions 1.0 & 1.1 Existing inventory of version 1.0 and 1.1 controls must be sold through before version 2.0 software will be available Control software can be updated two ways: Internet upgrade on control Requires valid wireless connection and SD card Software download to SD card via Trane.com or Americanstandardair.com The 950 control can be used as an indoor temperature sensor for zone 1 or it can be used solely as a control point. See the 950 presentation on the FSR Forum for additional information on upgrading software.

New Features (2.0) Zoning capability (with Zone Panel and Wired Sensors) All zoning related features are documented in the Zone Panel IG Schlage Link compatible (non-zoning only) Training presentation is loaded on FSR Forum Improved diagnostics Improvements Photo Album screensaver is now persistent after a power cycle CFG (No Humidity Sensor) is now a Normal alert and diagnostics have been corrected Weather feature has been completely re-architected to improve connectivity

16 ZZSENSAL0400A Wired Indoor Temperature Sensor
ZZSENSAL0400A is a non-display temperature sensor only ZZSENSAL0400A is the same part that is used with the TCONT402 thermostat When using a ZZSENSAL0400A as a zone sensor, set point and mode can be adjusted at 950 control If all zones utilize a ZZSENSAL0400A for their indoor temperature sensor then all humidity functions are disabled.

17 ZZSENSAL0400A Indoor Temperature Sensor
The sensor requires two wires which are connected to the corresponding slot on the Zone Panel Zone 1 can be controlled by either the onboard sensor of the 950 control or a wired sensor ZZSENSAL0400A does not have humidity sensing capability If all zones utilize a ZZSENSAL0400A for their indoor temperature sensor then all humidity functions are disabled.

19 ZZONEPNLAC52ZAA Zone Panel Kit

20 Zone Panel Connections
Zone Panel Wiring Each Zone Panel can accept up to 4 zones (max of 8 zones). If more than one Zone Panel is required, the Static Pressure Sensor, Discharge Sensor, Mixed Air Sensor and Return Air Sensor must be connected to the primary Zone Panel. Zone Panel must be powered by a field supplied 24v transformer, not system power. Up to (4) 1.5va Dampers can be wired in parallel for each zone

21 Zone Panel Connections
Discharge Air Sensor is mandatory for zoning. If a DTS is not connected a SOP error will be displayed and zoning will be disabled. Return Air and Mixed Air sensors are optional. All three sensors use the same part (SEN00462)

22 Zone Panel Connections
Static Pressure Transducer is optional, only required for calculating zone sizes (Auto Zone Size)

23 Zone Panel Connections
This is your connection to put the Zone Panel on the communication bus. “R” is not connected here because the Zone Panel must be powered by an external transformer not system transformer.

24 Zone Panel Connections
If the outdoor unit is communicating it can be wired to this connection point. The outdoor unit does not have to wire to Zone Panel, it can be wired to indoor unit.

25 Zone Panel Connections
The Zone Panel must be powered by an external transformer. The size of the transformer is dependent on the number of ZP’s and dampers used.

26 Zone Panel Connections
Bypass damper connections are for future use. Each supply damper must be wired to corresponding zone slot on Zone Panel. Each damper needs it’s own dedicated common.

27 Zone Panel Connections
For the initial release only wired sensors can be used. All wired sensors must be wired before enabling zoning in the 950 control; if not zoning will be disabled. When a wired sensor is connected to the Zone panel the 950 control will automatically associate this sensor to the corresponding damper upon entering the Installer Setup → Advanced settings. Zone 1 can use the onboard sensor of the 950 control or a wired sensor. To unassociate a wired sensor to the Zone Panel, first remove the wiring, then press “Restore factory Defaults”. Once revision 2.1 of the 950 control is released a wired sensor will be removable from the Zone sensor screen.

28 Zone Panel Connections
If a second Zone Panel is used, wire D, R & B from panel to secondary panel. Verify external transformer is large enough (VA rating) to handle both panels and all dampers. Secondary Panel will not report Static Pressure, Discharge Temperature, Return Air Temperature or Mixed Air Temperature. These sesnors must be wired to primary Zone Panel.

29 Zone Panel Connections
Zone Panel switch must be configured properly for the system to operate. If the switch is in primary position (zones 1-4) then a primary Zone Panel is created in the equipment list of the 950 control. If the switch is in the secondary position (zones 5-8) then a secondary (zones 5-8) is created. If the switch is in the secondary position (Zones 5-8) and no primary Zone Panel is discovered an alert (CFG ) will be displayed and zoning will be disabled. If the switch is configured for primary (zones 1-4) and the switch position is moved to secondary (zones 5-8) by accident, an alert (ERR ) will be displayed. To clear the alert, reposition the switch correctly and navigate to the Summary Table (Menu → Service → Technician Access → Proceed → Diagnostic → Summary Table and remove the secondary Zone Panel.

30 Zone Panel User Interface
User Interface Menu System Status Zone Status Information Alerts User Interface is the best place to get up-to-date external duct static Value displayed on 950 control is not updated unless “Refresh” button is pressed

31 Installation Guide All zoning instructions will be included in the Zone Panel literature This includes the steps required to setup a zoning system in the 950 control

32 Zone Damper There are three options for zone dampers: Round
Round Retrofit (slide in) Rectangular All dampers are 60 second drive dampers. The new dampers are interchangeable with the legacy dampers except the legacy and new dampers cannot be wired in parallel for the same zone. All orders are direct ship from EWC; expected shipping time is 2-3 days. Copyright 2011 Trane

33 Zone Damper Actuator The position indicator provides an easy reference point to view damper movement The part number and power consumption is listed on each actuator Damper release button. Press this button releases the gears and allow the damper to be adjusted manually Electrical connections. The connections “COM, PO & PC” are the same between the zone panel and actuator Copyright 2011 Trane

34 XL950 / Platinum ZV Control
The 950 control has advanced diagnostic capability All critical alerts will be displayed on the home screen and flash a “RED” icon on the shortcut bar Critical Alerts disable heating/cooling operation All major alerts will display a “Yellow Icon” on the shortcut bar of the 950 control Major Alerts disable some functionality but heating/cooling operation is possible Normal Alerts are logged but not displayed to the end consumer Normal Alerts are fault conditions that may interfere with system operation but will clear on there own

35 Advanced Diagnostics Diagnostic Screen will display all alerts regardless of severity Current Alerts (active alerts only) Alert History (alerts which have been negated) In the Diagnostic screen all alerts will have a Problem Description and Possible Cause listed Current Alerts will display the time the alert was asserted Alert History will display the time the alert was cleared

36 Advanced Diagnostics New Alert Messages
There are certain alerts which disable zoning, but heating/cooling operation will be maintained These alerts are categorized as Major since heating/cooling operation is still possible (examples below) SOP Indoor Temperature Sensor Fault SOP Discharge Temperature Sensor Fault SOP Four DTS trips within 1 hour

37 Advanced Diagnostics Disable Zoning continued…
Heating/cooling operation will be controlled by the temperature sensor in the largest zone (highest zone size/weight) All dampers will be driven to full open position These alerts will display a pop-up on the zones which are disabled and also indicate which zone is controlling heating/cooling operation Once the alert condition is cleared the system will automatically revert back to zoning operation

38 Advanced Diagnostics Example of an alert which disables zoning operation

39 Advanced Diagnostics Zone 2, as indicated in the alert message, is now controlling system operation

40 Advanced Diagnostics Zone 1 will display a pop-up letting the user know that this zones temperature sensor has been disabled

41 Advanced Diagnostics New Alert Messages
There are certain alerts which disable heating/cooling operation These alerts are categorized as Critical since heating/cooling operation is not allowed (examples below) ERR91 Communication Fault ERR126 Communication device missing/changed

42 Advanced Diagnostics Example of a critical alert which defeats heating/cooling operation

43 Advanced Diagnostics This slide shows the pop-up message which will be displayed for all zones

44 Summary Table In the previous example we showed an Err which defeated system operation Err indicates either equipment missing or changed A Summary Table has been added which will list all communicating devices and the current status of each device to assist in troubleshooting

45 Summary Table Here the Summary Table shows three communicating devices, two are online and one is offline The offline device is what created the Err Two Zone Expanders have been created with the same serial number because the zone dip switch was changed after initial power up When a Zone Panel is discovered on the communication bus, depending on the position of the zones dip switch, either a primary or secondary Zone Panel will be enabled. If the switch position is changed, a second Zone Panel will be created which will create a alert (Err ).

46 Summary Table Once the dip switch is changed to the correct position the online/offline status changed

47 Summary Table Select the “Offline” device and press “Remove Selected Offline Devices”

48 Summary Table The “Offline” device has now been removed
The Err will now be cleared and system operation will resume The Summary Screen allows for “Offline” devices to be removed without using the “Restore Factory Settings” which clears all settings

49 Look for even more advanced diagnostics in revision 2.1 software
