2 Chicharrones Chicharrones are fried pieces of pork. They are typically eaten with fried yuca and lime juice.

3 Mangú Mangú is a traditional side dish made of mashed boiled green plantains. It is topped with red onions and it may also contain cheese, salami and eggs. Mangú can be served for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

4 Sancocho Sancocho is a traditional Dominican stew made from a variety of meats, typically including pork sausage as well as chops, chicken and beef. Sancocho is considered the national dish in the Dominican Republic.

5 Quipes Quipes are deep fried oval patties made with wheat and meat. Quipes are stuffed with peppers, basil leaves, onions and tomato sauce. The original recipe was brought by Middle Eastern families who settled in the Dominican Republic.

6 Moro de guandules Moro de guandules is a traditional rice and pigeon peas dish. It is flavored with coconut milk, oregano, garlic and cilantro. It is typically eaten on Christmas.

7 Dulce de leche Dulce de leche is made by slowly cooking sugar and milk until it produces a thick and creamy spread. In the Dominican Republic cinnamon is added to the mixture.
