2 Meals, food and restaurants Comparison of Czech, English and American cuisine

3 Eating habits Breakfast – cereals, toast, pastry, yoghurt, bread/rolls with ham or cheese, etc. Snack – fruit, vegetable, sandwich Lunch – soup, and main meal: meat with potatoes, rice, or dumplings; possibly sweat lunch: pancakes, fruit dumplings etc. Dinner - warm or cold, similar to either breakfast or lunch

4 Typically British Breakfast: cereals, a toast Lunch: a packed sandwich to work with a packet of crisps, and fruit Dinner: main meal of the day, meat, vegetables and almost always (roast) potatoes

5 Typical British Breakfast Most people think: eggs, bacon, sausages, fried bread, mushrooms and baked beans washed down with a cup of coffee not many people will eat this for breakfast today it is always served in hotels

6 Eating out in England Various take- aways: Chinese, Indian, Fish and chips, fast foods: McDonalds, KFC etc. Restaurants All you can eat

7 Drinks Tea with milk accompanied with biscuits or cakes Cider: beer like drink made of apple, slightly alcoholic Beer: no head 1, Bitter - have a greater variety of strength and flavour 2, Light Ale - a low alcohol beer 3, Stout – strong, bitter, black with creamy head

8 Pubs in England vs. America Smoking prohibited Closing times at 11p.m. Typical game of darts Drinks served at a bar and paid for immediately Drinking legal from the age of 18 The legal age for alcohol in the USA is 21 years old law prohibits purchase and public possession of alcoholic beverages under the age of 21 illegal to sell alcohol to minors Not drinking in public areas, you can get arrested for that!!!

10 Holidays and Meals Christmas -the Czech Republic: fried carp, potato salad, fish soup, baked Christmas sweets -UK: Christmas Pudding / sweets, Roast Turkey, Crackers, Mince pie - USA: apple cider, boiled custard, candy canes, gingerbread, pies, roast turkey

11 Eating Healthily 1/ Eat a variety of nutrient-rich foods: whole grain bread, diary products, eat 2-4 servings of fruit and 3-5 servings of vegetables 2/ Maintain a healthy weight: excess body fat increases high blood pressure, danger of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, some types of cancer and other illnesses 3/ Eat regular meals: skipping meals leads to out- of-control hunger resulting in overeating 4/ Reduce, don't eliminate certain foods: If you love fried meals, eat them less often

12 5/ Know your diet pitfalls: write down everything you eat for three days 6/ Stop Eating 3 Hours Before Bedtime 7/ Shop with planning Eating schedule: 1. 7:00 a.m. - Eat breakfast 2. 10:00 a.m. - Eat a light snack 3. 12:00 p.m. - Eat lunch 4. 4:00 p.m. - Eat another snack 5. 7:00 p.m. - Eat a small dinner with a treat

14 Pet Obesity very common these days due to overfeeding, improper diet or lack of exercise obesity is more likely to develop in pets owned by an obese person

15 Junk Food food that is high in calories, fat, salt, and sugar without bringing any nutritional value It is convenient, tasty, and extremely addictive Brings about tiredness, anxiety, depression, or skin problems, in children even growth problems, tooth decay and weak bone structure the best solution is to avoid it, especially in young children – junk food is getting out of school cafeterias and vending machines
