2 The Sunday roast The Sunday roast was the most popular feature of English cooking. As people had a six-day working week it was the time for families to meet together. It is served on Sunday because it is prepared very long. And people eat it on Monday when they haven’t got time to prepare food because they work. Roast dinner is also eaten at Christmas. 3 Afternoon tea A stereotype. It’s rare. Generally, now teatime meal has been replaced by snacks. In the old times it was served at 4-5 p.m. (late afternoon). It was served with biscuits, butter, cakes. It was a break between lunch and dinner (served at 7-8 p.m.) 98% drink tea with milk English drink the most tea in Europe (2,3 kg every year). And they are third in the world (after Turkey and India)

4 Afternoon tea What are you having for your tea today? NO LEMON!!!! 2 breaks at work called „cuppa” (cup of tea/coffee)

5 Take-away food Fish and chips is the traditional national food of England. It became popular in the 1860's when railways began to bring fresh fish straight from the east coast to the our cities over night.

6 Common food Sausages- there are about 400 kinds of sausages in the United Kingdom

7 P I E S- Pies are very popular in England. Pies are a baked dish consisting of a filling such as chopped meat or fruit enclosed in or covered with pastry ( a mixture of flour and butter).

8 PIES Pork pie Steak and Kidney Pie Cornish pastry

9 Cheese Cheese is enjoyed by 98% of households. The most popular is Cheddar (it’s got a nutty taste).

10 MEALS Three main meals a day: Breakfast - between 7:00 and 9:00, Lunch - between 12:00 and 1:30 p.m. Dinner (sometimes called supper) - The main meal-between 6:30 and 8:00 p.m. (Evening meal)
