National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities The NIH defines health disparities as differences in the incidence, prevalence, morbidity, mortality, and burden of diseases and other adverse health outcomes that exist among specific population groups. What are Health Disparities?

National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities Racial and Ethnic Minorities (including subpopulations): African Americans; American Indians/Alaska Natives; Asian Americans; Hispanic Americans; Native Hawaiians, and other U.S. Pacific Islanders Socioeconomically Disadvantaged; and Residents in Rural Areas.
