2. Hi, I’m Perky Pencil! I work in this school to help kids like you be better writers.

3. My big job is to help you think like a writer. Today I will help you think about Conventions.

4. Conventions are the rules about writing.

5. When you write you put a space between words. Make sure the words are in a complete sentence.

6. Punctuation marks are needed at the end of every sentence.

7. Use a period at the end of a sentence that tells an idea. Use a question mark at the end of a sentence that asks something.

8. Use an exclamatio n point on exciting sentences. Don’t use them too much!

9. As you write, keep reading your story and ask yourself these questions...

10. Did I use capital letters? Did I do my best on spelling? Can another person read my writing?

11. Good writers want to share their ideas with others. They can be proud of their writing if they use Conventions well.
