Developing Leaders Do you think that we have enough leaders now? or Do you think we should just recruit already proven leaders? or Do you think that we need to develop new leaders?

Developing Leaders Can you think of some things that new or potential leaders need to know before they start the adventure into Leadership in the Grange? What would you say to a young new Grange member before they assume a leadership role in your Grange?

Developing Leaders The “New Pencil” principle What would you say to a brand new Pencil before you were to use it? 4 things that we all need to remember for ourselves and teach to all potential new leaders

The New Pencil Principle 1. “Sharpening” We can see that they have all the essential elements to do the job but something has to be done before they can be used Not ready to use until someone has taken us to the sharpener. This means we are to teach and educate them!

The New Pencil Principle Teaching and Educating new/potential Leaders Provide them with Learning Opportunities State Grange conferences National Grange GGS’s, ATT’s, etc… Take them along on with you to observe Show them how by being a good example. Walk the Talk!

Developing “old” Leaders What about us old Pencils? Do we need sharpening? ◦ Maybe a little training would be nice Have we been sharpened before? ◦ It has been a while Have we been sharpened a lot? ◦ We are getting close to “burn out” ◦ We are getting kind of short
