Materials Needed 2013 combined DCCM and TA manual and the ACCM from 2010-2011 Please have all manuals available This is a technology free training zone. Please silence your cell phones. Note taking only on iPads or computers.

Facts about EOCs Subject based tests – not grade based Started with students that entered high school in the fall of 2011 as freshman Up to 15 tests required for graduation Tests have performance levels of: Level 1 – Unsatisfactory Unsatisfactory Met minimum (score can be used in cumulative) Level 2 – Satisfactory Level 3 - Advanced

Facts about EOCs Students currently completing an EOC subject that are EOC graduates Students that are “Level I” will be re-tested Students that scored Satisfactory or Advanced may elect to re-test for a higher score Students will always keep the highest score they have made

Facts about EOCs Students that arrive from out of state or private schools do not have to take the EOC for a subject that the school awards them transfer credit in Students that are EOC eligible and take a CBE in an EOC subject must take the test during the next administration Students that are EOC eligible and complete course work must take the EOC during the next administration

Facts about EOCs Students that are scheduled to test in April that are under Special Education and/or LEP programs, must have the committees review accommodations and testing requirements prior to the April EOCs. To take STAAR L, students must meet eligibility requirements: 4 th year students who took STAAR L in December, are not qualified to take STAAR L in April.

Facts about EOCs Campus are responsible for identifying all students that need to test The 15% rule has been waived for the 2012- 2013 school year

Facts about EOCs ELL students must have a TEA special provision form for English I or II in their permanent records 4 hour timed tests Allowable make-up within the TEA established windows Tests are given three times a year Tests cannot be used as CBEs English test dates cannot be changed by districts

Manuals This training does NOT replace the requirement of thoroughly reading and being familiar with the appropriate Test Administrator Manual and identifying the correct section of the manual for the specific administration.

Standards Student did not meet Level 2: REQUIRED to Retest Student met minimum score, but did NOT meet Level 2: Recommended to Retest, but not required Student met LEVEL 2 Can OPT to retest Student met LEVEL 3 Can OPT to retest Precoded labels will be provided for any student that has not met Level 2 and previously tested within our district.

Who is testing? Students who are in a course that has an EOC test and are going to earn WHOLE course credit in the semester. Students who have passed an EOC test at a Level 2 or higher and have opted to retest. Students who have tested previously that DID NOT score at a Level 2 will receive a label, however: If a student is scheduled to test or a required re-tester and are absent you code them A - absent; If a student MET MINIMUM but has stated they do NOT want to RETEST, or are ABSENT, you VOID their answer document.

WHO IS TESTING? All students that have only achieved Level I (unsatisfactory and met minimum), took a CBE in an EOC subject, or will complete an EOC subject course this spring, or have elected to re-test for a higher score. Who is responsible for identifying students that need to test? - counselors, administrators, teachers, and CTCs.

Security and Confidentiality Account for all secure materials before, during, and after each test administration Protect the contents of all tests booklets and student answer documents No person may view, reveal, or discuss the contents of a test or answer document unless specifically instructed to do so by the procedures in the test administrator manuals No person providing an oral administration may write notes, calculations, or any other marks in a test booklet or in any other location Test materials’ inventory must be retained

Something to Think About…… Scheduling Issues More than one test session a day: AM session 8:30-12:30 All extra time students would have to start at 8:30 PM session 1:30-5:30 Can go beyond the school day for afternoon sessions Use the same test administrators for both test sessions. Student Overlaps: If scheduling more than one test session a day, are there students that would test in AM and then again in PM?

STAAR Scheduling Reminders English dates are set by the state and CANNOT be changed. English I, II, and III Writing can be combined for make-ups. English I, II, and III Reading can be combined for make-ups.

TIMED TESTS 4 hour test Must stop individual times for nurse visits Time does not stop for restroom or other personal breaks Time stops for lunch All time starts and stops must be documented on the seating chart Student with extended time accommodation must stop testing at the end of the normal school day If you go over the 4 hours, report it immediately to DTC

Test Administrator Directions TA directions are the SAME for: STAAR STAAR Modified But be sure TA reads correct call out boxes for specific test subject and type.

Test Administrator Directions TA MUST know what students they are testing PRIOR to testing day! Directions require TA to read specific call out boxes for different tests and are dependent upon student population.

Test Administrator Directions Must ALWAYS be followed VERBATIM, absolutely NO deviation. Students must write their first and last name on test booklet and booklet number onto answer document. Manual states when the 4-hour time limit begins. Start and stop time must be notated on seating chart. Booklet and form numbers MUST be on seating charts.

DICTIONARY USE Refer to TEA Dictionary Policy and the Linguistic Accommodations for ELLs Students must use school dictionaries

Testing Time Begin testing no later than 9:30 AM. Late arrivals AFTER 9:30 AM will be held over for a second session. Have TA prepared for second sessions Second group monitored at all times Second group eats lunch BEFORE releasing first group Late arriving students placed in testing rooms AND testing by 1:30 PM. Must be separate room from students in AM session. If students arrive late for PM session, they can test on designated make-up day.

Accommodation Type 2: Extra Time Must start by 9:30 AM Students do NOT test at noon if they arrive late. Late arrivals will test on make-up day.

EOC Answer Documents All demographics must be entered if label not used. Overwrite label by bubbling in that which needs to be changed. Cannot overwrite name, PEIMS, DOB, or gender. All test must have the date they were taken by the student bubbled in Score code and accommodations must be bubbled in as needed. “O” can only be used with DTC approval.

Oral Administration TA MUST: read Appendix B for specific directions, Read the entire Special Instructions/Considerations section of the applicable accommodation policy sign the “Viewing Secure Content” section of their oath, explain level of reading support to student prior to beginning test, and have same test booklet form number as student STAAR and STAAR M MUST be tested separately for OA.

Oral Administration Level of reading support: ALL questions and answer choices. PART questions and answer choices. Option to CHANGE reading level support during the administration at student request if documented in IEP/IAP.

Oral Administration For reading tests, only the questions answer choices may be read aloud. The student must read the selection first. Test questions and answer choices must be read in the order they are are presented. Reading selection must never be read aloud to the student. For writing, an oral administration is NEVER allowed for any part of the revising and editing passages, questions, or answer choices. However, reading aloud the reading prompt is an optional procedure.

Oral Administration Refer to Appendix B for full training Ensure that the same test form is used by student and TA If student receives a full oral the TA needs a booklet If the student receives a partial oral, the TA reads over the student’s shoulder Must sign the bottom part of oath prior to the testing date Only questions and answers on the English reading test may be provided after the student has read the reading selection

Oral Administration Refer to Appendix B for full training No oral is allowed on the revising and editing section of the English writing tests, the writing prompt may be allowed Reference material may be read aloud to an eligible student May read as many times as the student needs Test administrator must not rephrase, clarify, or interpret any test content Test administrator must keep voice inflection neutral

Transcribing If the student has the accommodation, TA must be trained and sign additional box on oath. When the transcription has been accomplished, note on the top of the answer document the reason for the transcription and the name of person that transcribed. Not included in the 4 hour window for basic transcription.

Test Administrations There are TWO TAKS test administrations for April TAKS Exit – first time enrolled 11 th grade students that have never taken the Exit test (unless scheduled to graduate by summer 2013). Must be PEIMS coded 11 th grade only. Test Math/Science/Social Studies Only TAKS Exit Re-Test – students that have not passed one of more Exit test required for graduation. Grades 11 or 12 that have taken the Exit tests prior or are first time Exit TAKS takers that are scheduled to graduate by summer 2013. All subjects test during the week.

Dictionary and Calculator Use Combined dictionary/thesaurus Ratio 1 to 5 LEP students may also use an ESL dictionary (not a bilingual dictionary) Calculators For math, graphing calculators on a 1 to 1 ratio. Must be cleared prior to and after test For science, graphing, scientific, or four function may be used on a 1 to 5 ratio. If graphing calculators are shared they must be “hard” cleared prior to each student’s usage

Accommodations By the book (note Use 2010-2011 ACCM) Oral – (not allowed on TAKS or TAKS Accommodated ELA) must train separately (see appendix C of DCCM/TA manual) Used in classroom on a routine basis Documentation – note IEP/IAPs CTC must be notified in writing of each student’s accommodations
