Efforts by ‘Basic Act on Ocean Policy’ Outlines National Effort for MS Strengthen humane resources by in- creasing specialists on maritime issues Prepare the ships and airplanes including MSDF’s Escort Ships, RHIBs, and Helos for Maritime Security Promote the mutual cooperation between Japan Coast Guard and MSDF to overcome the inter-agency gaps Strengthen humane resources by in- creasing specialists on maritime issues Prepare the ships and airplanes including MSDF’s Escort Ships, RHIBs, and Helos for Maritime Security Promote the mutual cooperation between Japan Coast Guard and MSDF to overcome the inter-agency gaps Cooperation with Coast Guard The act was enforced in July 2007, in order to enhance the sound development of economy and to improve the stability of the lives, as well as to contribute to the coexistence of the oceans and mankind under the international cooperation. Efforts against Piracy The Law allows the MSDF to protect any foreign ships irrelevant to Japan and share information among military vessels of other countries. The Law expands the MSDF' authority to use weapons to thwart pirates and secure ships to be protected.
