Good project plans are an essential part of building furniture. They help furniture makers understand exactly how a project is to be built. They also provide important information that helps the furniture maker know how much wood to buy and how much it will cost to build. Your plans will include: 1. Hand drawn sketches of project ideas. 2. 3-view scaled drawings. 3. Cut lists. 4. A Cost estimation. You will study and create plans using pencils, paper, computers, the internet, calculators, and input from each other. You will look at pictures and visit web sites to get ideas. You will then sketch plans. After sketching, your peers will review your drawing and give you feed back that will help you do a 3D drawing in Google Sketch Up. When your drawings are done you will develop an accurate cut list and cost estimation by hand and then using Microsoft Excel. Each assignment will be graded with a pass or fail. Throughout this process you will keep track of time you have spent on each task/assignment. This will help to associate time with costs of building the project from start to finish. Review of time cards, along with a teacher- student debriefing will act as a final evaluation.

Research Furniture designs: Research furniture designs using the text book Wood Technology Processes, provided podcast, the internet, and Mr. Felix. Look for projects that you think you could really build. Things to consider are beauty, function, and difficulty to build. To complete the assignment you will need to choose 1 project to draw that fits your knowledge and skill level. Save an electronic picture of the project you chose on the woodshop flash drive. Save it using your name so that you can be given a passing grade. All projects will be review by the whole class. (Click on the links below to accesses the needed computer based resources.) Make sure that you include a front view, top view and right side view in their correct locations. Top of course would be on top of the front view. Right would be drawn to the right of the front view. To complete assignment 2 you will need to show your sketch to two other classmates. In your group of 3 you will need to review each others drawings and make suggestions for improvement and then revise your sketch. Turn in for passing grade when done.
