Where Did the Idea Originate? July 2010 -- two "sparks" for the idea: ACRL "Scholarly Communication 101: Starting with the Basics" road show -- CULS Summer Institute 2010 at Kansas State University http://www.ala.org/ala/mgrps/divs/acrl/issues/scholcomm/roadshow.cfm CULS Executive Board meeting -- idea proposed by Gloria Creed-Dikeogu to sponsor a collection of proceedings from the CULS Fall Conference Also: several CULS Board members and members at large have presented at Brick and Click and contributed to the annual collection of papers from that conference: http://eric.ed.gov/PDFS/ED513812.pdfhttp://eric.ed.gov/PDFS/ED513812.pdf (2010 Proceedings)

What Are Other State ACRL Chapters Doing? 42 State ACRL Chapters -- the only other chapter doing a similar approach is: CARL (California Association of Research Libraries) -- offers Conference Proceedings (also 1st publication in 2010) http://carl-acrl.org/Archives/ConferencesArchive/Conference10/proceedings.html ("All presenters, regardless of session type, will be asked to submit a paper and/or summary of their session to the proceedings.")

Process for the Proceedings: "Originate, Create, Renovate, and Innovate: Leading Revolution in the Academic Library" 1st rule: Everything WILL take longer than you think! Call for proposals for CULS Fall Conference, October 15, 2010 -- asked to indicate whether or not presenter wished to submit a paper Deadlines were set as: o September 15, 2010: Notification of acceptance for proposals, and guidelines for publication sent to those who wished to submit papers o November 15, 2010: Due date for first drafts of paper submissions o Mid-late November: Review of papers by CULS Proceedings Committee; reviews sent back to authors o November 29, 2010: Due date for final drafts of papers

2nd rule: Delegate whenever possible! CULS Proceedings Committee reviewed the rough drafts of papers: o Micaela Ayers o Carol Campbell o Heather Smith-Collins o Kristin Whitehair Cynthia Akers -- general editor and "go-between" for Proceedings Committee, authors, and New Prairie Press Feedback on rough drafts was sent to authors (no names attached from reviewers) Process for the Proceedings: "Originate, Create, Renovate, and Innovate: Leading Revolution in the Academic Library"

3rd Rule: Don't Hesitate to Ask Questions! Open access will be provided by New Prairie Press http://newprairiepress.org/journals/ Working with Beth Turtle and Jenny Oleen Format of journal will be similar to open access Journal of Library Innovation http://www.libraryinnovation.org/

Provision of indexing/additional access to proceedings?
