There are many names for baby animals but black footed ferret ferret babies are called kits. Black footed ferret kits are born in the mouth of May - June and are as big as your thumb. Females can have 1- 3 kits in a litter. Kits are born blind and helpless. Kits stay under ground until they are two months old Then the female begins to take her young on hunting voyages. Like us, black footed ferrets are mammals. They grow up to two feet in length. Black footed ferrets have a long neck and a black marking on its face, the tip of its tale, and on its feet. The black footed weighs up to 2-3 pounds. A black footed ferret may eat Up to 100 prairie dogs a year! They can live up to 12 years. They live 3-4 years in the wild and 8-9 years in captivity. To humans prairie dogs might seem like pest, but to black footed ferrets they are a mid-night meal. Black footed ferrets are carnivores. That means they eat meat such as ground squirrels, small rodents, rabbits and birds. Prairie dogs make up 90% of a black footed ferrets diet.
