1 Sherman Garnes, Frankie Lymon, Jimmy Merchant, Joe Negroni, Herman Santiago Lymon was the first black teenage pop star Lymon had just started junior high when “Why Do Fools Falls in Love?” reached number one (Feb 1956) The group went on to star in Alan Freed’s package shows and movies Lymon’s vocal style directly influenced Inductees such as Ronnie Spector, Diana Ross, and Michael Jackson Tragically, Lymon died of a drug overdose on February 28, 1968 at the age of 25. Inducted 1993
