Age stratification : Unequal distribution of wealth, power, and prestige is based on age. Ageism : Beliefs, attitudes, and norms used to justify prejudice and discrimination. Functionalism: Elderly are treated according to what their role is in society. - In industrial societies the status of the elderly has dropped. - Linked to higher suicide rates.
