Notes Learning Objective: to develop a sense that probability is a ration that measures the chance that an event will occur. Probability – -always between 0 and 1 Likelihood that an event will occur 0 – it will never happen 1 – it will always happen.5 – it has a 50% probability of happening -Can be written as a fraction, decimal or percent. 1/4=0.25=25%

Learning Objective: to develop a sense that probability is a ration that measures the chance that an event will occur. Experimental Probability – # want # trials EX 1 – If you flip a coin 50 times and get heads 23 times, what is the probability that you will get tails on the next flip? P(tails)= 27 50 =.54 = 54% Learning Objective: to develop a sense that probability is a ration that measures the chance that an event will occur.

EX 2 – Steve made 9 free throws out of 20 attempts in his last 3 basketball games. Based on these games, what is the Steve’s probability of making a free throw? P(making a free throw)= 9 20 =.45 = 45% Answer #1 and #2 on Rolling Dice wksht Learning Objective: to develop a sense that probability is a ration that measures the chance that an event will occur.
