18 Problem and SolutionProblem and Solution Imagine a young athlete who needed to train for a big upcoming race. Yet he or she didn’t train enough. That would be a problem wouldn’t it? What are some ways in which he or she might solve their problem? Many stories have a problem that characters face. In these stories, the characters must often try to come up with solutions to their problems.

19 A Day at the PoolA Day at the Pool Charlie and his friends decided to hang out all day at the community pool. It was a gorgeous day, so it seemed like a good idea. Once the kids got there, some of Charlie’s friends decided to jump off the highest diving board. But Charlie was afraid of heights. He didn’t know what to do. He didn’t want to seem scared in front of his friends, but he was. Charlie though for a minute. Then he had an idea. He decided he would pretend he was Duke Dodger, his favorite action hero. Duke wasn’t afraid of anything. Charlie, pretending to be Duke, climbed up the ladder and leaped into the air.
