Overview Benchmark Internet and Computing Benchmark Pre-assessment Enables teachers to determine student’s digital literacy level and computing skills Permits progress tracking when used with the Mentor Over 220 assessment questions, one per syllabus topic Matches the 2005 Syllabus IC³ objectives Syllabus domain and sub- domain level reporting Mentor Internet and Computing Mentor Begins where the Benchmark ends Assists the student when they don’t know the answer to a question on a topic Offers complete teaching of the topic upon student request Tracks student progress Ties directly into an excellent IC 3 textbook Hardcopy or e-Book versions Both the Benchmark and Mentor are Internet based services

Classroom Strategy Benchmark INITIAL inventory of student skills against the backdrop of the IC 3 2005 syllabus Each of the 3 modules of the exam, takes 45 to 60 minutes Provides an individualized student study guide Coordinates with the Mentor and passes the students achievement data to the Mentor Onetime use Mentor Begins where the Benchmark ends Assists the student when they don’t know the answer to a question on a topic Offers complete teaching of the topic upon student request Tracks student progress Provides drill and practice Student may use over and over Can provide progress comparison

Classroom Strategy Students take Benchmark Review results Focus on teaching topics requiring remediation Students take Mentor on taught topics Mentor ASSIST helps students who need it

Classroom Strategy - 2 There are alternative approaches Key is to make sure the students learn what is required to answer the questions related to the IC 3 syllabus Using the benchmark will give you a measure of what your students already know You only need to test the students for the IC 3 Module you are going to teach in the current term You can test the students on one Domain at a time in an IC 3 Module You can focus what you teach on where the Benchmark indicates remediation is required

Classroom Strategy - 3 Use the Mentor to: Re-test the students Help the students understand the right answer Teach the IC 3 topic using the e-book assist feature in the Mentor Re-test the students again The Mentor is available to the students from home, Starbucks, etc. They can use the Mentor anytime to improve their knowledge

Other Topics Achieve IC3 CD-ROM 2003 Syllabus Not compatible with the Benchmark and Mentor E-Book Basic version included with the Mentor Complete version available Hardcopy textbook available
