Trial by Jury- Crime by insanity?

-Judge - Keeps order - Offers an objective (un-biased) opinion -Defendant - The person who allegedly committed a crime -Defense Team - Made up of an attorney (lawyer) and people who help him/her - Their goal is to prove that the defendant is NOT guilty -Prosecution Team - Made up of an attorney (lawyer) and people who help him/her - Their goal is to prove that the defendant IS guilty WHO IS IN A COURTROOM?

-Jury - Made up of about 10 people who are objective and decide whether the defendant is guilty or innocent -Bailiff - Typically a police officer who escorts the defendant in and out of the courtroom -Clerk - Person who records EVERYTHING that is said or happens during court -Detectives - Men/women who investigate the crime scene - They have a team to help them WHO IS IN A COURTROOM?

-Open up to page 241 in your anchor text: - We are conducting a trial by jury as to whether or not the narrator is guilty of committing a murder -First thing we need to do: What do we want the narrator’s name to be? -Defense team: Wants to prove that Narrator is NOT guilty of manslaughter, 1 st degree murder, or 2 nd degree murder (pg. 242) -Prosecution: Wants to prove that Narrator IS guilty of manslaughter, 1 st degree murder, or 2 nd degree murder THE TELL TALE HEART COURT CASE

-Judge -10-12 member jury -Witnesses: 3 police officers, 1 neighbor, 1 mother, 1 father -Defendant (Narrator) -Defense Attorney -Prosecuting Attorney -3 or 4 members of the Defense Team -3 or 4 members of the Prosecuting Team -Crime Scene Investigation Team (Detectives) CHARACTERS WE WILL HAVE IN OUR COURTROOM
