Over 100 million wireless subscribers in the U.S. (more than one-third of the population), with 50,000 added daily –How will this affect your library services? Over 2 million personal digital assistants were sold in the first ten months of 2000 (+164% from same period last year) –Is your library ready for students’ use of PDAs? Get ready for a whole new set of terms and acronyms –PAN: Personal Area Network - cordless LAN for wireless devices –Bluetooth: de facto standard for seamless wireless connectivity –WAP: Wireless Application Protocol – wireless device specification standard –WML: Wireless Markup Language - HTML-like language for wireless technologies
