Justin S. Morrill Morrill Land Grant Act of 1862 A system to provide funds to establish, support and maintain at least one college in each state to teach agriculture, mechanical arts and military sciences. “ Liberal and practical education of the industrial classes in the several pursuits and professions of life. ”

William Henry Hatch Hatch Act of 1887 Provided federal funding for state experiment stations Purpose was to conduct research to improve production agriculture

Smith-Lever Act of 1914 Established Cooperative Extension Service Purpose was to provide and extension of the land grant college to local communities Placed “ agents ” of the university in local counties
