Standards of Performance High School track and field in Wisconsin is a non cut sport. An athlete either competes at a Varsity or JV level. While there are no cuts, athletes are still held to a standard of performance in terms of academics, practice attendance, and code of conduct.
7
All athletes must maintain eligibility per school (see athletic handbook), WIAA, and family standards. If an athlete requires academic help, a signed note from your teacher must be provided to the coach. Academics
8
Practice Attendance Excused - Legitimate health issues or family emergency- note from parent or doctor. School related commitments must have written note from teacher. Any other situation will be handled on a case by case basis with direct communication with coaching staff. Unexcused - Medical Appointments are not excused absences from practice unless pre-approved by coaching staff Work is not an excused absence from a mandatory practice unless pre-approved with coaching staff All absences must be approved by coaching staff –1 unexcused absence: Suspension from 1 event in next competition –2 unexcused absences: Suspension from next full competition –3 unexcused absences: Team demotion and suspension from next full competition –4 unexcused absences: Excused from team

Code of Conduct All athletes are expected to follow the CHS Extracurricular Code. (A copy of this code has been given or should be acquired from the Athletic office) A signed agreement must be on file. Track athletes are also expected to treat teammates, coaches, competitors, parents and officials with respect. Coaches will not tolerate abusive behavior of other athletes, schools, equipment, or officials.
10
Other Items Injuries- Athletes may become injured during the season. Be in constant communication with coaches regarding physical condition. All athletes must report to the head coach and event coach prior to visiting with the school trainer. After treatment and/or consultation with the trainer, athletes must report back to the head coach and event coach. Injured athletes will stay with their event group and may assist coaches with timing, etc. during practice. Travel Release- Staying at a meet to support teammates is mandatory. Legitimate releases pre- approved at least one day prior to meet must be done by head coach. The head coach must approve all early releases.

Other Items, Cont’d Earning A Varsity Letter- There are three primary factors: 1. Percentage of competition at a varsity level. 2. Participation at the varsity indoor/outdoor conference meet. 3. Finishing the season in good standing (academic/code eligible). Seniors with at least three years of track participation, in good standing, will also be eligible, not guaranteed. Becoming a Captain - All team captains will be voted upon by coaching staff based on leadership qualities represented during past seasons and off seasons. At anytime during the season if the captains do not represent the team in a positive manor via the athletic code of conduct or demonstrate conduct detrimental to the team seen through the head coach’s eyes, the honor will be stripped from the athlete. The title of a captain is an honor, not a privilege, and should be considered in the highest regard.
