History of Dash 8 Originally produced by de Havilland Canada (DHC) Debuted in 1984 and was named the de Havilland Canada Dash 8 or DHC-8 Now produced by Bombardier Aerospace Since 1996 Dash 8’s have been referred to as the Q series To date over 900 hundred have been built

Dash 8 Performance Original model was the DHC-8-100 37-39 passengers It had two PW120A turbo props rated at 1490kW each 440 km/hr cruise speed 1520 km range 25,000 ft operating altitude Max take-off weight of 16465 kg

History of the Q400 Entered service in 2000 Stretch version capable of carrying 70-78 passengers

Q400 Performance It has two PW150A turbo props rated at 3620 kW each 648 km/hr cruise speed 2400 km range Standard version has a 25,000 ft operating altitude Drop-down oxygen mask version has 27,000ft operational altitude Max take-off weight of 27330 kg Has Active Noise and Vibration Suppression (ANVS)

Q400 Current Events Between October and September of 2007 there were three major landing gear malfunctions (all on Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) No fatalities as a result 2 the landing gear got stuck descending 1 the right wing gear collapsed Led to SAS to remove it Q400 fleet from service February 12, 2009: A Q400 en-route to Buffalo Niagara International from Newark Liberty International crashed into a house in Clarence Center, NY
