Kick-Off Seadatanet – Heraklion – 7-11 June 2006 2 Objective Analysis Goals : To realize a quality control of the data (by Coriolis) To provide a view of the base content and evolution of the in-situ observation network (not only ARGO) To follow in real time the evolution of the temperature and salinity fields Products : Alert system (only for the data centre) Map (by browser in free access) Reduced data on standard levels (FTP – controlled access) 3-D fields (FTP – controlled access) Coriolis data centre - objective analysis developed by Emmanuelle Autret and Fabienne Gaillard (Ifremer).

Kick-Off Seadatanet – Heraklion – 7-11 June 2006 3 Objective Analysis Data Temperature and salinity profiles collected and controlled in real time by CORIOLIS from Argo profilers, GTS, buoys, moorings, or oceanographic vessels (XBT, XCTD, CTD). Analysis over the North Atlantic (20°S-70°N, 100°W-20°E) (October 2002 to December 2003) Weekly analysis T & S fields On a grid with 1/3° resolution (PSY1-Mercator) At 51 levels down to 2000 m Analysis residuals for each observation Analysis over the Atlantic (20°S-70°N, 100°W-20°E) December 2003 to March 2005 Analysis over the Atlantic (70°S-70°N, 100°W-40°E) January to April 2005 Analysis over the Global Ocean (run in operational mode since May 2005) Using, from the CORIOLIS data base, the temperature and salinity profiles controlled during the last 4 weeks, real time analysis are performed once a day. Weekly and daily analysis T & S fields On a grid with 1/2° resolution At 59 levels down to 2000 m Analysis residuals for each observation

Kick-Off Seadatanet – Heraklion – 7-11 June 2006 7 Every Wednesdays, 4 analysis with the estimation days d, d-7,d-14, d-28 are produced. Each analysis takes into account the profiles measured within -21/+21 days around the estimation date interval. http://www.ifremer.fr/co/co0525/en/global/ http://www.coriolis.eu.org/cdc/ Objective analysis Global ocean Weekly analysis

Kick-Off Seadatanet – Heraklion – 7-11 June 2006 9 Applications 1) Climatological study in the north Atlantic (0-70°N, 100°W-20°E) 2) Climatology from the available data 3) Qualification of ARGO floats in delayed mode Re-analysis - Principle Dataset soon available by ftp

Kick-Off Seadatanet – Heraklion – 7-11 June 2006 10 Objective Analysis Quality control : a few data …. Daily Daily Each day, a mean of 60 profiles needs to be controlled by an operator before going back to the loop of the data for the diffusion. At least, one half of this dataset needs to be corrected. Weekly Weekly About 7000 profiles is provided each week to the modellers.Yearly For each year-analyse, hundreds of data have been re-controlled from the alert system. To summarize… The objective analysis with alert system is exploited by the CORIOLIS data centre in real time. It is also set up in delayed mode to produce re-analysis used for the qualification of the ARGO floats or climatological studies. The version "V3" exploited since December 2003 produces every Wednesdays, temperature and salinity fields at 59 levels from 5 down to 2000 m. The levels: 10, 100, 300, 1000 and 1600 m are presented by the "quick-look browser". The maps can also be drawn with "Live Access Server"."quick-look browser""Live Access Server" This version also runs daily for the qualification of the dataset.
