2 Univerity of Genova Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Technologies Hystory The history of “Dipartimento di Ingegneria Navale e Tecnologie Marine” (D.I.NAV.) has its roots in the “Regia Scuola Superiore Navale”, founded in 1870 and transformed in 1924 into “Regia Scuola di Ingegneria Navale”, which represented the very beginning of the future Faculty of Engineering in Genoa.

11 Univerity of Genova Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Technologies NAVAL ARCHITECTURE LABORATORY - SHIP MODEL BASIN L = 60 m v = 3 m/s The DINAV Towing tank is used for resistance tests of both mono-hull and multi-hull configurations.

12 Univerity of Genova Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Technologies NAVAL ARCHITECTURE LABORATORY – CAVITATION TUNNEL 570 x 570 mm v = 8,5 m/s The DINAV Cavitation tunnel allows experimental tests to be performed on advanced propellers and fins using also LDV and PIV techniques. 19 Univerity of Genova Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Technologies Research on the stability of damaged ships An important research field carried out at DINAV is the safeguard of the human life and the protection of the marine evironment. Within this context the problem of the buoyancy and stability of the damaged ship is studied and analyzed in order to foresee the survival of the ship in case of damage and the risks for the environment.
