ANTENNA BASICS As for the dictionary antenna defined as “a usually metallic device (as a rod or wire) for radiating or receiving radio waves.” But as for IEEE standard definitions of terms for antenna or aerial as “a mean for radiating or receiving radio waves.” In other words the antenna is the transitional structure between free-space and guiding devices.
4
RADIATION Regardless of antenna type, all involve the same basic principle that radiation is produced by accelerated (or de-accelerated) charges.

ADVANTAGES AND DRAWBACK Extensive research and development of microstrip antennas and arrays, aimed at exploiting their numerous advantages such as light weight, low volume, low cost, conformal configuration, compatibility with integrated circuits working in dual frequency range The major drawback is it narrow banding. ADVANTAGESDRAWBACK

OVERCOME FROM DRAWBACK The microstip antennas are also used on broad band by using some of the optimization technique, which are - taking slot from patch, changing the slot/slits position, changing probe position and changing dielectric constant. The quality of the microstrip antenna can be improved as per our requirement by improving some of the parameters like gain, return loss and antenna dimensions.

APPLICATIONS Applications of microstrip antennas are Communication navigation, altimeters, blind landing systems, Radar, proximity fuses, telemetry Domestic direct broadcast TV, vehicle-based antennas, communication, Pagers hand telephones, man pack systems, mobile vehicle, Large lightweight apertures, Intruder alarms, personal communication.

TRIANGULAR MICROSTRIP PATCH ANTENNA Triangular microstrip patch antenna has become popular in public wireless applications due to small patches required and their conformability to various applications. Such antennas (right angle triangular) microstip antennas were designed mostly on air substrate (this can be practically implemented using thermocol or foam). The antennas were simulated and analyzed using the IE3D software based on method of moments. Further the patch geometry was also optimized for multi frequency and broad band applications using the genetic optimizer built in IE3D.
